Onna Ariya is a self-taught artist based in Penang, Malaysia, specialising in watercolour. Her work combines elements of Western painting techniques with Asian subject matter. This is demonstrated in her series on koi, the fish that has deep symbolic meaning in Chinese and Japanese cultures. She is also an art teacher who has facilitated small group workshops both locally and internationally, offering new perspectives on watercolour.
Onna has exhibited in group shows, including at Penang Performing Arts Centre (2019), Penang City Hall (2019), Lukis Tulis Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur (2019). Her first solo exhibition, Breath, was held at the G Hotel Art Gallery in November 2019 to January 2020. Her artwork is held in private collections in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States.
