Photographer and curator
Vignes Balasingam is a widely acclaimed photographer whose work is much in demand, with his commercial portfolio featuring distinctive portraiture for corporate clients and beautifully designed interiors.
His work has appeared in numerous international publications, including the New York Times, Forbes and the Financial Times. His corporate clientele includes Siemens, Franklin Templeton, Leighton, Nokia, Pemandu, Sarawak Energy, Shell and Deutsche Bank.
Vignes is the director of the prestigious OBSCURA Festival of Photography, a leading such festival in the Asia-Pacific. His exhibition curations have been presented around the world – from Berlin, New Delhi, Tokyo and Jeon-ju to Bandung, Yangon, Bangkok and Singapore – while his photography and art direction won him an award for the Best Album Artwork category at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (Malaysian Music Awards).
Vignes is a nominator for several awards with the World Press Photo Foundation and has juried numerous prestigious photography awards, including the Prize for Contemporary African Photography and the Kuala Lumpur Photo Awards. He has a bachelor’s degree in contemporary music arranging from the University of Westminster, London. He currently lives between Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
